Gift ideas for 1 year old?
Q: I am going to a friends' daughter's 1 year old party, and I'd like to get a gift that's very useful - not just a keepsake. Any ideas?

A: Sure, I’d be happy to help! At this age, a great dish set would be really practical and fun, especially since the baby will start feeding herself soon. I love the Baby Dish Feeding Set (http://www.giggle.com/p/24163/Baby-Dish-Feeding-Set-BPA-Free.aspx) because not only is it BPA-free (which we love!), but the dishes have a non-slip base that will help them stay put on the table. Want to give her more? Pair it with a Splish Splash Mat ( http://www.giggle.com/p/12121/Splish-Splash-Mat-Organic-Cotton.aspx?cc=MOMIMI&s=1&keyword=splish+splash+mat) that goes under the highchair to make clean-up super easy. Plus, it can last well beyond the highchair years as a tablecloth for art time.

I hope that helps. If you want more suggestions, just ask!

reintroducing bottles or sippy cups to a 9 month old
Q: My daughter is almost 9 months old and although she took a bottle for her first month, she firmly refused thereafter and would only breastfeed or take sips of water from a cup. We continue to try to get her to take a sippy cup or bottle, but she just doesn't seem to understand how to use them, especially the ones that don't leak because she can't figure out that she needs to suck on them. What would be our best options for reintroducing bottles or sippy cups?

A: You should definitely try the stage 3 Adiri Natural Nurser Set, which has a rounded shape and closely mimics a woman’s breast. Other moms with your same issue have found success with them. Once your daughter gets the hang of sucking on them, try introducing a sippy cup so she gets the hang of that as well. The thinkbaby Trainer Cup is a great one to introduce since the spout is soft, unlike some other sippy cups.

I hope you find this information useful. If you have additional questions, please ask!

best teething ring for breastfeeding mama
Q: I have an almost 3 month old that has started teething! I breastfeed exclusively and never had a child teeth so early. To avoid nipple confusion, what do you suggest? Or is this even an issue. I would like a hard teething ring.

A: Thanks for your question. Even at 3 months, using a teething ring shouldn’t be a problem. Usually, nipple confusion comes from switching between using a bottle and breast feeding, rather than using a teether.

If you’re looking for a firm teether rather than something made of, say, organic cotton, our favorite is the Natursutten Apple Teething Ring (http://www.giggle.com/p/23121/Natursutten-Apple-Teething-Ring.aspx?s=1&keyword=teether). It’s all natural and can be chilled in the refrigerator, which will be very soothing for your baby!

A: Not to worry! All of our bottles are BPA-free. (For those of you who are not familiar with BPA, it stands for Bisphenol-A and is a chemical found in plastics.) We’ve also got lots of great BPA-free products for older kids, like dish sets and utensils.
