Dorel Maxi-Cosi Priori Convertible Car Seat

This car seat covers both the infant and toddler stages, which means one less car seat to buy. But what really sets the Maxi-Cosi apart is that it's the only convertible car seat that reclines to four different positions while your child is sitting in it. Why it's a giggle pick: We love that it reclines because it's more comfortable for sleeping babies (no more "head jerk" as they're nodding off!). Who it's perfect for: Parents who don't need a true infant car seat that can be clicked in and out of the car will love saving a purchase with this convertible seat. Maxi Cosi Safety
Q: I love my mico, but just found out it was recalled. We need a new seat anyway, so was thinking of getting this one, but was this recalled too, and how can I trust that it won't? ALSO, is this the lightest convertible on the market? Thanks!

A: I can understand your concern here. First, let me spend a minute explaining the recall. A small number of car seats have been identified where the car seat doesn’t properly attach to and detach from the base, but no injuries have been reported. Only the following models manufactured prior to February 18, 2008 are affected by this voluntary recall: 22-371 HFL, 22-371 JUC, 22-371 ORE, 22-371 PNG. The model and date code can be found on the bottom of the car seat or on top of the base. If you have further questions in regards to this recall, you’re encouraged to contact Dorel directly at www.djgusa.com or by calling 877 657 9546.

Safety is our first and upmost concern here, and we want your children to be safe just as much as you do. Dorel is a trusted company and we continue to stand by their products. The Priori hasn’t been recalled and if it were, we would take immediate action to get the situation handled appropriately.

To answer your other question, I’m not quite sure if it’s the lightest weight convertible car seat on the market, but it’s extremely compact and definitely lighter than some others. Since it goes up to 40 lbs and has a small footprint, it’s definitely lighter than some Britax car seats, such as the Advocate CS and the Boulevard CS. I hope you find this information useful. If you have any followup questions, just ask!

Detachable Base?
Q: Hi,
I appreciate all your information. I have a follow-up question regarding the base. In the specifications on the giggle website the weight of the car seat is quoted as 16 lbs- without base. So, is the base detachable?
Thanks!

PS- You could delete one of my two questions regarding the Buzz-base. I just wasn't sure if my first question had come through, so I asked a second time.

A: Actually, this is a mistake on our part! The base is definitely not detachable, so I’ll be sure to have the website corrected. Thanks for the catch!

A: Good question! The Easy Traveler is meant to accommodate infant car seats only, and since the Priori is a convertible car seat, unfortunately it won’t work. A convertible car seat means your baby can be rear-facing or forward-facing. Unfortunately, no convertible car seats are capable of attaching to strollers, with the exception of the Orbit infant system and toddler car seat.

Installation with and without base? / Travel
Q: Can the Priori be installed both with and without the base? (Both car and airplane)

What do you suggest for a carrying strap/ device for the Priori for travel (e.g. airport)?

Thanks much!

A: The Priori is a convertible car seat, so it doesn’t come with a detachable base like an infant car seat does; you just install the whole car seat in your car or on an airplane. For air travel, check out the JL Childress Wheelie Car Seat Travel Bag (http://www.giggle.com/p/18871/JL-Childress-Wheelie-Car-Seat-Travel-Bag.aspx?s=1&keyword=travel). Since it’s on wheels, it’s super easy for travelling through an airport, plus it has a detachable shoulder strap! Thanks for your question!

Does it attach to the Quinny stroller base?
Q: We have adapters for our Maxi-Cosi Mico that lets one attach the car seat onto the Quinny stroller base. Is this also an option with the Priori car seat?

A: Unfortunately, the Priori won’t work with your stroller base. Only infant car seats are made to be moved from car to stroller, since they’re still small and portable. Once your child moves up into a convertible seat, like the Priori, or into a toddler seat, the seat stays installed in the car most of the time.

A: The Priori is suitable from birth to 4 years. An infant can start using this beginning at 5 lbs. and use it all the way up to 40 lbs. The maximum height is 43” tall.

Does the Priori fit onto a Buzz stroller base?
Q: Does the Priori car seat fit on a stroller base- like the Quinny Buzz3?
We have the Maxi-Cosi infant car seat (which fits on our Quinny Buzz with adapters) and need to upgrade.
Will it fit in an airplane seat?
Thank you!

A: The Priori is a convertible car seat, which means it can be used both rear-facing and forward-facing. It does come with an isofix base, which for those of you who are not familiar with this term, is the same thing as a LATCH system. Not only super easy to use, but a very stylish seat as well!
