Questions & Answers for Philips Philips Zero-Interference Baby Monitor

Model number
Q: Hi

Can you please tell me whether or not this baby monitor is the Philips Avent SCD510 or is that another monitor?

Also, are there two handsets? I live in a two storey house so this will be important for us.

Thanks,
Belinda

A: This is the Philips SCD520 monitor, which is one step above the SCD510 you mentioned. It has a few more features, like a battery charging indication and a charging base for the parent unit. Both use DECT technology, which guarantees zero interference.

This monitor doesn’t come with two handsets, and unfortunately, you can’t purchase additional ones. The Graco Digital Deluxe iMonitor with Vibration (http://www.giggle.com/p/24388/Graco-Digital-Deluxe-iMonitor-w--Vibration.aspx?s=1&keyword=graco) comes with two handsets, so you can leave them in different rooms. The digital technology provides crystal clear sound quality, and it has a range of 2000 feet; the Philips has a range of 1000 feet. Both monitors are fantastic, so no matter which one you choose, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied!

frequency
Q: do you know what frequency this monitor operates on? would it be considered more safe to use an audio only (like this one) than a video if the frequency is less?

A: Believe it or not, the Philips monitor doesn’t operate on any frequency! It works on digital technology, also known as DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication), rather than analog frequency.

As for safety, there is no conclusive evidence regarding baby monitor frequencies and safety. The latest findings from the World Health Organization found no problems associated with low level EMF, and they even studied pregnant women working in the electronics industry (see http://www.who.int/peh-emf/about/WhatisEMF/en/index1.html for more information).

However, as a general rule of precaution, we follow Healthy Child Healthy World’s recommendation that parents keep all electronics several feet away from cribs to reduce exposure (see www.healthychildhealthyworld.org). Hope this helps!
