That's the spout, and can be removed and used on any of the containers. I wouldn't recommend using them for liquids since it can become a little messy when you're on-the-go! They're best when used for snacks, toys, formula etcetera.

Great question! All four containers are the same size (about a half cup) without dividers. But, each compartment holds up to 5 scoops of formula. These will provide you with an ample amount of storage for snacks and formula. And, the easy stacking sytem will help you decide how many you'd like to take with you...1,2,3 or all 4!
