Buy this, or wait for 2010 model?
Q:
Our baby is due in late June but since you are offering great prices on the 2009 UPPAbaby Vista we'd consider buying sooner. However, from comments I've seen online, it seems like there are substantial changes to the 2010 model, such as more recline positions, more height to the seat, and additional accessories such as a sun shade or rain cover. Do you recommend buying this model, or waiting? And we have a friend who's offered us her SnugRide car seat from late 2004 now that her kids have outgrown it. Would a car seat that old be compatible with the 2009 or 2010 UPPAbaby? Thanks!

A:
You’re right; there have been quite a few significant changes to the 2010 model of the Vista, which I’ve listed below (although you pretty much nailed them!). There’s certainly nothing wrong with the previous model; the manufacturer just took customer feedback and made their great stroller even better.
Here are the main changes for the 2010 model from the previous model:
o 4 seat positions as opposed to 3
o Seat height higher by 1 ½ inches allowing for more head room
o Removable/washable neoprene bumper bar, 2009 fabric not removable
o Easier step-down foot brake to unlock as opposed to lifting up to unlock
o Continuous tire machine assembly providing a smoother ride as opposed to 3-prong hand assembly; difference also resulting in a black push-in “star” wheel and hubcap vs. 2009 silver 3-spoke wheel
o Plusher seat fabric
o 2010 bassinet has extended 50+ SPF pull down sunshade
So which do you pick? It really just comes down to personal preference. Think about the added features and decide if they’re important to you and if they’re worth paying extra for. I will say that, although there are some big changes, the parents who bought the 2009 Vista absolutely loved it,
As far as the car seat is concerned, all Graco Snugrides are compatible with the Vista, even the old ones. However, you should consider getting a new model Snugride anyway, because safety standards are always evolving and a six-year-old model won’t have undergone the same safety testing that new models have.
Besides, Graco has newer versions out that have improved on their previous models, and they have infant car seats that last longer! One in particular that you should check out is the Graco SnugRide 35 Infant Car Seat, which you can use until your child weighs 35 pounds! http://www.giggle.com/p/26446/Graco-SnugRide-35-Infant-Car-Seat.aspx?s=1&keyword=graco
Best of luck – and hope this helps!
