24 months?
Q:
I know that the crib is advertised for use "up to 24 months," but I'm curious how many 2-year-olds, or 20 month olds, for that matter, could really sleep comfortably in such a small crib. I like the look of the alma crib a lot, but it is nearly 10 inches narrower and 5 inches shorter than a typical mini crib, also billed to last "up to 24 months." How could the alma crib accomodate up to the same age/size as these other, significantly larger, mini-cribs, which are not meant for children older than 24 months?

A:
The Alma is safety regulated for 24 months. There is no regulation that we are aware of that sets a size standard for "mini cribs," and to our knowledge there are a variety of cribs that fit this definition. Moreover, there are no standards for "comfort." Therefore, as much as we would like to help, it would is impossible for us to tell you which option is more "comfortable" for a baby and at what age.
“What we can speak to about the Alma is three things. First and foremost, it is regulated for safe use up to 24 months – meeting and exceeding the ASTM standards (specifically ASTM F406 for Alma), which are the requirements to sell in the United States. Not only does Alma meet and exceed all required US Safety regulations, it has also been tested to the US CPSIA requirements, UK and Europe requirements (specifically EN716 for Alma) as well as those of Australia and New Zealand (specifically AS/NZS 2195 for alma). Safety is always both ours and bloom’s number one concern. Second, "comfort" is largely a personal decision and is typically also very cultural. For example, as a general rule, smaller sleeping environments in Europe are common and "comfortable" from babies to adults as compared to American preferences. Last, global consumers have been loving and using the Alma for some time. Although new in the States, based on our first few months of sales, customers who bought and are using the Alma are raving about it!
If you're hesitant about the comfort and looking for a crib that allows you a small footprint when your baby is little but will grow with you as your baby grows, our recommendation is that you take a peak at the Stokke Sleepi System (PLEASE ADD LINK). The Sleepi starts out as a bassinet, but then grows into a full-sized crib. Down the road, the crib can convert further into a toddler bed, be extended into a junior bed and then even becomes a set of chairs so you never have to have any waste and your little one's comfort is maximized while using the least amount of space required at each stage. When it comes to "multi-stage" and making the most (for the longest time) of your purchase, there are few if any good comparisons to the Sleepi in the market today!
Thank you for your interest in the Alma. And good luck with your decisions.”
